Crazy

Just a crazy stair design, who comes up with this, I would love to see its design on paper

A quick decent down the stairs , terminating at this very attractive Rail Cap

The quality of this photo is disappointing, but you can still see the look of the Invitational starting steps....

Interesting transition from level to a rake handrail.

Twisted Turnout

Here is a Twisted Turnout installed on top of a block top newel post, has a very nice look and smooth flowing. Get care was taken on the baluster layout and manufacturing to get all the balusters to line up well.

The handrail on the upper winder looks low in height, but at least the top blocks line up. The stretched out stair bracket also adds an interesting detail to the foyer side of the staircase

Nice and clean look of the upper balcony area, the square rail caps on top of square block top newels is not a look you would see often nowadays , but seems to have been very popular in the day.

Congress Hall , Cape May, NJ

This is a very unique stair layout, featuring a "T" design but with 45 degree return
legs. form tight transitional pieces on the inside corners. The color of the handrail allows
the the different segments of twist fittings to be seen and recognized.

A Top down View really shows off the hard angles

This Front view shows an inviting opening in the handrail to travel down to a lower landing. There is is 2 sets of these stairs stacked directly over one another.

Great Black and White shot of the stairs looking down, again what a challenge to design and build.

Nice Baluster Details

This is a very unique stair design, built over the front door and with a paladin window on the landing
There is a lot of millwork detail in this small area. The volute post Roman column is a different look and the pineapple finial just adds to that.

Here is a close up of the pine apple finial and the newel post column. But I think the balusters are the true stand outs in this picture, with a barley twist, fluted, twisted and plain pattern. The wainscoting shows a lot of planning and detail.

The baluster pattern continues on to the level balcony handrail

Box Posts

Here is a good example of a purchased box newel posts, There are many examples of catalogs containing newel posts just like the one in this picture.

Simple but very attractive stair layout

Independence Hall Style

This large volute has a similar look to that of the one at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, the picture on the right

The very impressive detailing of the stair brackets and wainscoting make the side of the stair a work of art.

The second floor landing is very large and leads to a a equally impressive 3rd floor stair

Twisted Handrail

Great stair design allows for a wonderful flowing twisted handrail

Tight and twisting handrail makes it way up the staircase

Square Rail Caps

Impressive main staircase with a large amount of detail, and over sized balusters.

Awesome view looking down the stairwell......The Square Rail caps are great detail ...

Twisted U Shape

This is a good example of what could be done to an average U shape stair to add
Twist fitting to the transitions and add a more flowing and graceful look.

This view shows the effect of twist fittings at the landings and turns as the
handrail flows down the stair and into the volute

The inviting handrails shows a twist fitting at the top of the stairs

Saddleback Balconies

Simple , but elegant starting Newel Post starts the beautiful handrail system, a heavy handrail continues up the 1st up stair and begins a series of incredible upeasings that forms the "Saddleback" balcony detail.

On the 2nd floor the simple elegance continues with simple box newels with a stop chamfer detail. But the "Saddleback" upeasings make just a strong statement especially in the handrail profile and size.
The detail of the longer turned baluster under the upeasing shows a little extra thought went into this design.

Incredible Starting Post

I could only imagine how ALL the workers in this project stopped to watch the rail installer carry this monster into the house, and stood around as he installed it.

Really nice "Toad Back" handrail profiled Twist Fittings as the handrail twist and turns up to the 3rd floor.

Very Blue

This is a very unique handrail, but I believe most of the parts could be ordered out of a catalog and shipped right to the job site. The fluted round posts and turn stained urn make a powerful statement of wealth and grandeur in this foyer.

Looking down at this masterpiece, one can't help but to study the detailing of the balusters with flutes and twisting details. The height of the handrail is also shown in this picture, I think its about 5" or more tall and then cut into the round newel posts must have been fun.

Awesome Invitational Starting Steps

The more you look at this picture the more incredible details and designs you start to see.
The Twisted Volute stands out as the centerpiece of this design featuring 360 degree of handrail scroll.
Twisted turned hollow newel post and custom turned balusters follow the handrail downward.
The stair brackets feature raised panels and detailed scrolls.

White Stairs and Handrails

This staircase is a great example of a free standing cantilevered stair and landing, the box posts with clipped corners result in an interesting Rail Cap with a over the post continuous handrail .The coffered ceiling is constructed right into the fascia of the balcony handrail and makes dramatic look.

Highly detailed Box Posts with clipped corners offer a very unique look, the twisted balusters running on rake show quite of bit planning and design went into this stair design.

Even the balcony handrail show a great deal of detail and fore thought, such as the baluster blocks match the height of the newel posts. The fascia feature raised panels and under ceiling trim.

Raised panel stair brackets the length of 2 treads offer a grand look to the side of the stairs.

Twisted Box Post ?

Great looking box posts and twisted rake rail

Here is a view of a Twisted 180 Rake to Level fitting, the has both a level quarter
and a easing worked into it create a smooth flowing handrail.

Nice view looking down onto the stairs, shows a invitational starting steps
and a box post turned to create a very interesting entry up the stairs.
