Nice Volute

This volute is just a work of art, as it scrolls into itself, just a large amount of time and effort was put into creating this masterpiece.

In this view the size of the volute really stands out as just a massive piece, maybe 20+ balusters are installed under this monster. Overall all not an outrageous design, but just the pure size of it just  leaves a person in awe of out.

The radius balcony on the landing also adds a great tough, square rail caps on top of turned block top posts is also a design detail that is seen a lot during this period.

Twisted Volute

This twisted volute just makes such a statement in both design and first impression I felt it needed to be shared. A large amount of fall in height allows the volute to make a dramatic twist down to the volute.  Very nice

Box Posts

Very unique box post design and detailing on the handrail system. The triple inset panel is something I haven't see before and is a very nice detail.

A great close up allows you to see the amount of carvings and detail on this starting box newel post.
Think of all the hands that have grab that finial as they made there way up the stairs.

Sunburst

This stair and handrail system has a very clean and simple look at first glance, but as you study it further a great amount of detail starts to be noticed.

The stairs are not designed correctly for these 180° twisted transitions so they come out a little flat at the apex of the turn. This is caused by not placing the risers in there proper place to allow a smooth downward twisting flow.

The sunburst hardwood floor detail is incredible to see and very difficult to install. Nice close up view of the 180° transition.

180° Stairs

This well designed stair and handrail system sits at the end of the foyer as a 3rd story piece of furniture. Its smooth lines and flowing details make it very appealing to your eye and I'm sure just joy to walk up.

Great view of the highly figured quarter swan white oak treads and the deep red mahagany handrail and balusters.

The radius wainscoting just adds another degree of detail that is often seen in houses of this period.

Twisted Volutes

Nice view of the Twisted Volutes at the bottom of this both hand open stair.
The square block twisted balusters also offer a ton of detail to the stair.

Twisted 180° Transitions

A octagon newel post starting post greets you as you walk up to this very nice staircase,
also featuring a Twisted Rail Cap starting fitting to add a some flare to the entry way.

A great view looking up the balusters, Its a very nice look.
Also note the detail of the stringer as it transitions into the upper stair.

Here the 2nd floor to 3rd floor stair makes a smooth twisted transition down to the lower floor.

Nice Balusters

Octagon balusters and a really nicely detailed stair bracket are featured in this picture, just a nice view of quality craftsmanship.

Awesome Twisted Volute

Great shot of a twisted volute that just dives as it twists down to the newel post. This not a easy handrail profile either to produce such a work of art.

Some careful planning and design went into this stair layout, the baluster and stair bracket
look perfect for one another. I like the custom sizes of the balusters to get that true lines as look down the stair.

Looking up to the second floor, you can see the saddleback upeasings and square rail caps that are used on the balcony handrail overlooking the stairs

Very Traditional

A very large Twisted rail cap sits upon this very average octagon newel post, the reason being the wider 4" Toad Back handrail used in this installation.

Nice view up the stairs at the 180° transition at the the top of the stair as it returns back across the balcony handrail. The other interesting detail is the stair bracket detail continued as a trim under the landing tread.

A nice close up look of the stair bracket and scotia molding, the balusters are very attractive with a tapered center section.

In the view you get to see the whole handrail system, just a very nice traditional handrail system for the period.

Box Posts

Very nice designed mahogany box newel posts, a little different finial for the top of the posts.

Square Caps on Turned Posts

A different look then you might see today, Square Handrail caps installed on top of a square block newel post....Doesn't look bad....

Twisted Landing

A nice view of a Twisted Volute as the handrail flows down and
around to the newel post

Nice side view, you can really see the height of the drop of the twisted volute.

Nice Twist Fittings
