Some very unique stair and handrail design in this late 1800's San Francisco mansion, custom "Lambs Tongue " starting fittings are just a work of art and not seen very often on the East Coast.
Its a shame the handrail is stained/painted so dark , I'm sure at some point it was stained to match the floor or close to it. The detailing of the handrail with large radius upeasing is attractive and interesting to see where the handrail is attached to the newel posts
The Box newel posts are simple to the standards of the time, but fit in well with the box stair design.
The balusters are a design not seen to often, but work well in the installation.
The entry way sure does make a statement.... the column is.....I'm not what it is....
